Jacksonville festivals and spring fairs bring to mind thoughts of cotton candy, wild rides, and fresh strawberries.

Forget those few really cold Jacksonville days! It’s a time to leave all your cares behind and celebrate the coming of spring.

Spring is in the air, and you can really feel it on a day like today! The sun is shining and it’s a warm 81 degrees outside. You can find a lot of different fairs and festivals all over town and down to St. Augustine.

Each year residents of Northeast Florida and the surrounding areas gather and enjoy the bagpipe and drumming competitions, Highland dancing and Tartan parade, where Scottish Descendants march with the symbol of their clan to open the festival. A highlight of the games is the athletic competition, where individuals compete against other participants and themselves, engaging in such challenges as the very popular caber toss, the hammer throw, weight for height, sheaf toss and stone throw. Other activities include sheep dog trials, where border collies demonstrate how shepherds and dogs work together to herd sheep, along with a Highland breed dogs and Highland Livestock, including Clydesdale Horses and Shetland Ponies.

The Strawberry Fest is all about springtime. Bring the family and enjoy all of the fun and festivities. Pick up a few packages of Plant City strawberries, and try all of the delicious strawberry treats from chocolate covered strawberries to strawberry milkshakes. Live entertainment, classic cars, and lots of activities for the kids.
